Condition Details / Information Notes
This is a substantial tree of good quality standing in a very prominent location in terms of the Davenham grounds. This is one of the largest and best quality trees in the grounds. A number of concerns are identified in the report that accompanied the application (largely unchanged from the previous inspection report that resulted in the creation of the TPO). However, as previously, an untargeted overall canopy reduction has been proposed. It is not clear, if there are specific concerns about particular parts of the tree, why a targeted bespoke specification was not proposed. An aerial inspection was proposed in a previously submitted tree survey in order to provide a clearer understanding of any potential issues that cannot be fully appreciated from ground level. It is not clear whether that was undertaken. Such an inspection would be important, bearing in mind the size, stature, and presence of the tree. The tree has been inspected by the local authority, and an overall canopy reduction is not considered to have been adequately justified, and would be considered to the detriment of the appearance of the tree.
The proposed works would be to the detriment of the natural shape, form, and flow of the tree's canopy, and therefore to public amenity
Unnecessary tree works should be avoided to minimise the chances of detrimental impacts on the tree's vascular system, potentially leading to the ingress of harmful pathogens and decay, or the activation of latent pathogens or decay fungi
The proposed works would mean a reduction in the tree's leaf area resulting in the reduced availability of carbon and other products from photosynthesis. The proposed works would therefore be considered to be to the detriment of the tree's overall health and resilience and are therefore not considered acceptable.
